Julie Bowen has filed for divorce from her husband Scott Phillips

The 'Modern Family' actress was reported to have split from the real estate investor - the father of her three sons, 10-year-old Oliver and eight-year-old twins John and Gustav together - last week, and now it has emerged that she filed paperwork in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday (06.02.18) to legally bring their 13-year marriage to an end, TMZ reports

It is unclear if the former couple have agreed a custody arrangement or child support payments yet.

The pair have not been spotted on a red carpet together since September 2016 at the Los Angeles LGBT Center's 47th Anniversary Gala Vanguard Awards in West Hollywood, where Julie, 47, joked that the pair were too "tired" to think about getting divorced.

She said at the time: "We watch all these people get married and split up and go, 'Wait, did they get married after us or before us?' We outlast all these people. The answer: We're too tired to do anything else!

"At first I loved my husband and then I loved the kids and now I love our family. When I see my husband with my kids, it makes me so happy. When I see my kids all sitting down at the table together, I'm like, 'This is awesome. We did this!'"

And the former couple were last photographed together almost a year ago in February 2017, when they attended a Harlem Globetrotters game with their brood.

Julie and Scott celebrated their anniversary on the day of the Emmy Awards in 2016, and the actress revealed that she'd allowed him to stay at home so that he didn't have to be a "purse holder" on their special day.

She said at the time: "We just had our anniversary on the day of the Emmys which was hilarious. He's come every year, he's been so supportive and this year he was playing in a tennis tournament and I wasn't nominated as an individual so I said, 'What do you want to do on our anniversary?' I mean it's such an honour to be nominated and to go, but it's tough to be a purse holder."
