Avicii’s body is to be flown home to Sweden this week

The late DJ passed away on Friday (20.04.18) at the age of 28 whilst in Muscat, Oman, where he was said to be on holiday, and it has now been confirmed that his body will be taken back to his native Sweden later this week to return to his “devastated” family

Police confirmed to People magazine: “He is survived by his parents, two brothers and sister - who are all completely devastated.”

The tragic passing of the ‘Wake Me Up’ hitmaker - whose real name is Tim Bergling - was confirmed in a statement by his publicist this week.

It read: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."

At the time of writing, the cause of his death has not been made public.

Avicii had been open about his health issues in the past and had previously retired from touring. He had been battling with acute pancreatitis - which is a potentially life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas - due in part to excessive drinking, and had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.

Whilst his family are yet to make a public statement on his passing, his former partner Emily Goldberg - who dated the ‘Hey Brother’ musician for two years until 2015 - took to social media to share her grief.

She wrote: "'Come on babe, don't give up on us. Choose me, and I'll show you love.' Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them. For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can't look at Bear without knowing I'll never see his face again. I'm still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts. Wake me up when it's all over, because I don't want it to be real #ripavicii #avicii @avicii (sic)"
