Meth dealer sentenced to home detention
A meth dealer with 139 previous convictions has been sentenced to 12 months' home detention, because of his poor health.
30 April 2018
Jamie Liu was sentenced this afternoon, four years after he was arrested in a major police crackdown on the drug trade.
Three years ago Liu suffered two strokes.
He can now walk about 20m with crutches, but otherwise uses a wheelchair.
During sentencing, Wellington High Court judge, Justice David Collins, reduced Liu's term, saying he would be vulnerable to serious attack and needs support to get in and out of bed, get dressed, shower and go to the toilet.
Justice Collins also allowed sentence reductions for Liu's guilty plea, and the fact he's been on restrictive bail since October 2014.
