The Southern Steel and Central Pulse have recorded first up wins on the opening day of the new ANZ Netball Premiership season in Palmerston North

The Southern Steel and Central Pulse have recorded first up wins on the opening day of the new ANZ Netball Premiership season in Palmerston North

The defending champion Steel have beaten the Northern Mystics 55-47, while the Pulse have eased past the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic 45-33

Sonny Bill Williams is a chance to make his return to Super Rugby next weekend.

The All Blacks midfielder fractured his wrist playing for the Blues in late March, and was thought to be out for at least six weeks.

Coach Tana Umaga says Williams and outside back Melani Nanai could be back for Friday's game against the Hurricanes at Eden Park.

The Blues currently have 16 players sidelined with injury.

A tough task awaits Jonelle Price if she's to hold on for the title at the Badminton Horse Trials.

The Kiwi eventer and horse Classic Moet lead on 28 penalty points, ahead of second-placed Oliver Townend who also has 28 points.

Price says the final day of showjumping isn't their preferred discipline.

Sir Mark Todd is the next best New Zealander in sixth on Kiltubrid Rhapsody.

LeBron James has beaten the buzzer to guide the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 3-nil lead in their NBA playoff series against the Toronto Raptors.

The team's talisman has dropped a floater on full time, with the Cavs winning game three of their eastern conference semi final series 105-103 on home court.

The Raptors had levelled the score with just eight seconds left, before James took over in the final possession.

He led all scorers with 38 points.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have thumped the Melbourne Storm 34-14 in the NRL.
