This follows more than 300 people taking part in events in Upper Hutt and Porirua which allowed police to check their children's car seats were properly installed.
It's part of road safety week.
Wellington District Road Policing Manager Jan Craig says 90 percent of the seats which were checked had some sort of fault in them.
She says more than a dozen car seats were found to be unfit for carrying little ones, and the Cheeks in Seats charity replaced every one of those with a brand new car seat.
