More than a million dollars has been raised by small east coast communities to buy shares in Waiapu Investments.
It's a vehicle created by Hikurangi Enterprises to build a pharmaceuticals processing facility in Ruatoria and conduct phase one clinical trials for a medical cannabis product.
Earlier this year, Hikurangi Cannabis Company signed a letter of intent with a Seattle-based company to produce 12-thousand-kilos of pharmaceutical grade cannabis products over the next four years.
The 160-million-dollar offer was conditional on Labour's medical marijuana bill passing its second and third reading.
It is currently at select committee stage.
