Transport Accident Investigation Commission opens inquiry into Britomart passenger train derailment
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has opened an inquiry into the derailment of a passenger train at Auckland's Britomart Station this morning
9 May 2018
Chief Investigator of Accidents, Captain Tim Burfoot, says the train, operated by Transdev, is reported to have had 33 people on board when it derailed in the Britomart tunnel.
The Commission opens an inquiry when it believes the circumstances of an accident or incident have - or are likely to have - significant implications for transport safety, or when the inquiry may allow the Commission to make findings or recommendations to improve transport safety.
Britomart is still closed and is expected to be closed until at least tomorrow morning
