12 May 2018
Police were called to the scene just before 1 this morning, where they found the man who is believed to have died from a medical event.
The death follows an incident in 2016 where a Czech tourist fell to his death on the same track, and his wife survived for a month in a warden's hut before being rescued.
The Department of Conservation describes the 32km long Routeburn Track, one of the country's Great Walks.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
