Police were called to the Skippers Canyon area shortly after 4 this afternoon.
Emergency services say they were told that a raft had flipped on the Shotover River.
Various authorities including Maritime New Zealand, the Rescue Coordination Centre and the Transport Accident Investigation Centre have all been advised.
The Shotover River draws thrill-seekers wanting to try bungee jumping, rafting and jet boats.
In March, a whitewater rafting guide died there when his raft overturned
