A young woman's died after a police pursuit

The woman was the front seat passenger in a car being driven by a 15 year old which failed to stop for police in Palmerston North.
Police say the car was driven at speed onto Pioneer Highway and crashed into a power pole at the intersection with Shirriffs Road.
The passenger died at the scene and the 15 year old male driver is in a critical condition in Palmerston North Hospital.
A second young woman who was in the back seat has serious injuries.
Serious Crash Unit and internal Police investigations are already underway and the Independent Police Conduct Authority is being notified.
The road remains closed and diversions are in place.
Police say just one police patrol car was involved in the pursuit.
