District Health Boards have doubled their offer to 520 million dollars - after the union announced strike action this morning.
The nurses' union says they're now reviewing the offer.
The increase would see the salary of a registered nurse with five years experience go up about 10 thousand,500-dollars over 18 months.
DHB Spokesperson Helen Mason says the offer shows how valued nurses are.
She says we've got an increasing population and we need great skilled nurses - and the package recognises that.
