A police pursuit in Auckland has ended with a fleeing car containing five youths - the youngest aged just 12 - colliding with another vehicle

At around 8am police tried to stop a stolen vehicle that was acting suspiciously, and was believed to be linked to a series of burglaries overnight in Counties Manukau.

The vehicle fled and was pursued for around 10 minutes, before crashing into a car waiting in heavy traffic in Manukau.

Senior Sergeant Peter Marriott says thankfully no-one was injured as a result of the crash...but a 12-year-old boy from the fleeing car was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A 16-year-old girl has been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, aggravated failing to stop and reckless driving.

Two 17-year-old girls are charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, while the 12 year old and a 13-year-old girl have been referred to Youth Aid.
