The NRL has announced a surplus of $44.6 million dollars

ARLC Chairman Peter Beattie says the strong financial results gives rugby league a strong footing at the beginning of a five-year cycle.

Beattie says the financial results were enhanced by the growth of the women's calendar, the release of the game's strategic plan and increases across membership, crowds and television audiences last year.
