A new computer software is helping us keep an eagle eye on some of our most vulnerable species

Researchers can use the AviaNZ software to analyse sounds in bushes and forests, and deduce how many of each type of bird are present.
It's been tested on kiwi in Wellington's Zealandia Ecosanctuary.
Victoria University Professor Stephen Marsland says it can also pick up the noises of pests like possums.
