A Southland jet-boater suffered a medical event, before dying on the beach after capsizing

A Southland jet-boater suffered a medical event, before dying on the beach after capsizing

Jet Boating New Zealand former president, Paul Mullan, says Peter McKenzie was driving the boat about a kilometre west of the Wairaurahiti River mouth when he appeared to suffer a medical event.

He says the boat was knocked over by rogue waves, and the three on board made an escape.

But Mullan says McKenzie had to wait four-hours in strong wind and rain... dying before emergency services reached the remote location.

He says he was an extremely experienced jet-boater... and will be sadly missed.
