Wellington's Mayor says she's mortified she walked out of a restaurant without paying, after drinking

Tory Whanau was dining at The Old Quarter on Friday night -- and says she was tipsy.

The day before, council voted to soldier on with the Let's Get Wellington Moving project.

Mayor Tory Whanau told Newstalk ZB she denies claims that she asked a waiter - if he knew who she was.

She says the bill was paid the next morning, and it was an honest mistake -- saying she's heard various accounts of what was said, which she has to deny.
