    Queensland Rugby League boss Ben Ikin has revealed negotiations to extend the contract of Maroons coach Billy Slater are close to completion as he urged the NRL not to change the format of State of Origin

    Slater has guided the side to consecutive series successes.

    A desire exists from NRL clubs to reduce the State of Origin series from a six-week format to lessen the impact on the season.

    Clubs also want 10-day team camps cut to a week.
