Weather alerts have been issued for the North Island as the rain that's forced Southland and Queenstown Lakes into a state of emergency tracks upwards.
About a dozen homes in Queenstown are unable to be occupied.
Queenstown District Mayor Glyn Lewers says as long as the rain stays away, they can start clearing debris on Upper Brecon Street.
He says they're assessing several buildings .. and they're getting clarification on them from engineers.
