Ben Stokes has taken up a one rather than three-year contract with English cricket's governing body

Ben Stokes has taken up a one rather than three-year contract with English cricket's governing body

    - article from www.rugbyleague.co.nz

The 32-year-old test captain has opted for the shorter deal with a view to negotiating a more lucrative package next year when a new cycle of broadcast rights starts.

The country's first multi-year contracts have been pitched as a way to ward off interest from franchise leagues.

Joe Root, Harry Brook and Mark Wood are the only players to sign three-year deals.

41-year-old pace bowler James Anderson has joined Stokes in the one-year club.
