Te Whatu Ora is encouraging young people to make sure they're immunised - before they move into close living quarters.
Last year, there were 16 cases of the disease in people aged between 15 and 24.
Director of Prevention Alana Ewe-Snow says it can spread rapidly through close contact at boarding schools, university accommodation and military barracks.
She says early diagnosis and treatment is important - and if you suspect your child, roommate or friend has the disease, seek immediate medical advice.
