The rebuild is on for the Black Caps after a wobbly start on day one of the first cricket test against South Africa in Mount Maunganui

The rebuild is on for the Black Caps after a wobbly start on day one of the first cricket test against South Africa in Mount Maunganui

Sent in to bat after losing the toss - New Zealand lost Devon Conway for one with the first ball of the second over.

Fellow opener Tom Latham and Kane Williamson then set about steadying the ship - that pair safely reaching drinks with the Black Caps now 33 for 1.

The hosts have opted to rest Neil Wagner and Will Young, meaning Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry come in from the side that played Bangladesh in December in the absence of Henry Nicholls and Ajaz Patel.

The visitors are fielding six debutants - with several of their top players playing in their domestic T20 league.
