Maritime New Zealand is urging boaties to really think about water safety, amid increasing incident reports this summer.
Regional council harbourmasters have had more than 5,000 interactions with boaties this season.
Spokesperson Matt Wood says there's been some pleasing behaviour, with lifejacket carriage and wearing rates quite high.
Mr Wood says disappointingly though, more than 100 infringements have been issued for excessive speed, travelling too close to other boaties, and not flying dive flags.
