The homemade explosive found in a New Lynn park in Auckland this afternoon, has been safely disposed of

A Defence Force spokesperson has confirmed the device was a metal pipe bomb.
Earlier, locals were warned they might hear a "loud bang" as a controlled detonation took place.
The device was initially found by a resident who was metal detecting in a park near Seabrook Avenue.
