    The Police watchdog has found officers were justified in shooting a man dead outside his burning house in Auckland's Glen Eden


    In November 2021, officer arrived on the scene after residents on the street reported a house on fire and sounds of explosions and gunshots.

    The Independent Police Conduct Authority's says Police deployed sponge rounds, a Police dog, and a distraction device at 55 year old Tex Witika but were unsuccessful in arresting him.

    Witika reportedly pointed a shotgun at officers and gunfire was exchanged - Mr Witika died at the scene and three officers were injured.

    Police acknowledge the findings and say lethal force was the only option available to them.
