Police are looking to identify a person who discharged a shotgun at a gang-attended tangi in Waikato

Gang members made up the majority of attendees, as well as a Corrections-escorted prisoner.

Police were called to the marae around 12:45 yesterday afternoon - after slashed tyres were discovered on the Corrections van.

RNZ is reporting the guards locked themselves and the prisoner inside the escort van - until reinforcements arrived

No injuries were reported and the prisoner was escorted safely back to prison.
