A reminder New Zealand is called the Shaky Islands for a reason, following earthquake strengthening deadline changes

A reminder New Zealand is called the Shaky Islands for a reason, following earthquake strengthening deadline changes

The Government's announced it's giving people an extra four years to get unsafe buildings up to scratch, and bringing forward a review of earthquake-prone buildings.

AUT construction expert John Tookey says he's fully aware of the commercial and financial pressures people are facing, but he'd be cautious around any extensions.

He suspects there's a certain amount of kicking the can down the road and not facing up to what needs to be done.
