A woman's right to consent has been breached during endometriosis treatment

A woman's right to consent has been breached during endometriosis treatment

The patient discussed surgical options with an obstetrician, Dr B and gynaecologist, Dr D - and made it clear she didn't consent to ablation, only excision.

    This wasn't documented.

The surgery was performed by Dr B at Auckland DHB, using ablation to remove a small endometriosis lesion - and excision was for the rest of the surgery.

Health and Disability Commissioner Morag McDowell has recommended Dr B apologise to the woman and undertake learning on informed consent.
