Calls for increasing competition in the markets to boost productivity

Calls for increasing competition in the markets to boost productivity

The OECD's biennial report on our economy is advising the Government to gradually get our books back into surplus, with slow economic growth and productivity.

It's also recommending adapting our competition regulations to boost productivity.

Independent economist Cameron Bagrie says some sectors have a lot of concentration and are exercising a lot of market power.

He says at the moment we have a light-handed style arrangement to our regulatory framework, and we might have to become more aggressive.
