    Recreational Marine: Hawke Bay
    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1330hrs Monday 20-May-2024 by MetService

    Situation:
    A front over the lower South Island weakens away today, as a complex trough moves onto the North Island from the Tasman Sea and affects the North Island into Tuesday, while a ridge of high pressure builds over the South Island. The trough moves eastwards on Wednesday to lie slow-moving to the east of the North Island dragging a showery east to southeast flow over the island through to Thursday. Meanwhile, a cold front reaches the far south late Thursday and travels up the South Island on Friday as a southwesterly flow strengthens over the country.

    Forecast issued at 1016hrs Monday 20-May-2024
    Valid to 1 pm Monday for Inshore waters between Cape Kidnappers and Portland Island.
    Strong wind advisory.
    Monday: Variable 5 knots. Easterly 10 knots developing this afternoon, rising to 15 knots early evening and to 20 knots late evening. Sea becoming moderate late evening. Cloudy periods with fair visibility in a few showers, then poor visibility in rain from evening. Easterly swell half a metre, rising to 1 metre. Southerly swell half a metre, rising to 1 metre.
    Tuesday: Easterly 20 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots in the morning, and to 30 knots gusting 40 knots for a time about midday. Becoming northwest 15 knots in the evening. Sea becoming rough in the morning, easing in the evening. Poor visibility in rain. Easterly swell 1 metre, rising to 2.5 metres. Southerly swell 1 metre, easing to half a metre.

    Outlook until midnight Friday:
    Wednesday: Northwest 15 knots, quickly changing southerly 30 knots in the
    morning. easing to southeast 20 knots later. Rain, possibly heavy.
    Easterly swell 2.5 metres, easing to 2 metres. Southerly swell 1.5
    metres, rising to 2 metres.
    Thursday: Southerly 15 knots, turning easterly 10 knots early. Turning
    southwest 10 knots late. Rain, possibly heavy. Southeast swell 2
    metres, rising to 2.5 metres, then easing to 2 metres.
    Friday: Southwest 15 knots, rising to southerly 20 knots later. Rain.
    Southeast swell 2 metres, rising to 2.5 metres, then easing to 1.5
    metres.
