Javier Bardem ‘happy’ to become dad

Javier Bardem has spoken out about his wife Penelope Cruz’s pregnancy, admitting he is “very happy” about becoming a dad, but admits the pair have not yet thought about names.

Javier Bardem is “very happy” about Penelope Cruz’s pregnancy.

The Spanish actor is ecstatic about the upcoming birth but admits he and his actress wife – who is around four-and-a-half months pregnant -are yet to start thinking about names for their first child.

He said: “It is true. I am very happy.”

Asked if the couple had thought of a name during an interview in Rome, Italy, he said: “No, not yet.”

Even though he is about to become a father, the 41-year-old hunk - who married the Spanish star in a secret ceremony in the Bahamas in July – does not yet feel in a position to give advice about balancing family life with a film career.

He said: “It is a little too soon for me to be giving any advice. I don’t know yet. But I will find out soon.”

The notoriously private couple only announced the pregnancy after Penelope, 36, was pictured on the set of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ with a baby bump, forcing them to reveal details.

Penelope has previously claimed she would like to have several children, and would even consider adopting.

She said: “I'd love to have kids. Maybe I'll adopt about 20 children - that's been my dream since I was a little girl. I want to have my own kids, but also adopt. For a while I've had the feeling that my life won't be complete if I don't adopt.

“I think I would be a perfect mother. I love babies.”
