Katy Perry wants the internet to be turned off

Katy Perry has questioned whether the web is improving human life and has asked for "someone to please pull the plug on the internet".

Katy Perry wants the internet to be turned off.

The 'Wide Awake' singer has decided the amount of time people are spending on the web is having harmful effect on society and she wishes everyone would step away from their computers and talk to each other in person.

Using her online twitter account to spread her anti-web message, she tweeted: "Someone please pull the plug on the internet. Does it really better us as humans? #writealetter #whoactuallytalks #thistweetishypocritical (sic)"

Katy's internet angst is surprising as she is one of the most prominent celebrity twitter users and has 23,914,895 followers at the time of writing.

The 27-year-old pop star also regularly interacts with her fans on the micro-blogging site and answers the questions they tweet to her.

Meanwhile, Katy was this week announced as the new face of Popchips.

The 'California Gurls' hitmaker has become an official representative of the potato snack and is also investing in the company.

In a statement, she said: "I remember it was late at night, and I was craving a midnight snack without the guilt. The bag stood out in the minibar, and I was pleasantly surprised when I read the back of the label and saw that it was a healthier choice. I was hooked after my first bite!"
