Rylan Clark has become the latest singer to leave 'The X Factor'.

The controversial contestant admitted he felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders after he became the eight contestant to be voted off the ITV series despite giving his "best vocal performance" to date.

The flamboyant singer was joined in the bottom two by boyband Union J.

Rylan performed 'Wires' by Athlete and Union J sang Snow Patrol's huge hit 'Run' for survival.

Following their sing-off Nicole Scherzinger voted to save her act Rylan, but Tulisa Contostavlos, the band's mentor Louis Walsh and his biggest critic Gary Barlow all agreed to save the group.

Despite claiming last week that while Ryan remained in the competition more talented performers would be voted off, the Take That singer told Ryan he was a "brilliant contestant."

He said: "I'm so glad because tonight that was your best vocal performance."

Speaking on ITV2's 'The Xtra Factor' after the main show Rylan admitted he was relieved to no longer be in the competition.

He said: "I feel like I've just been let out of prison."

The 23-year-old Essex singer also thanked his mentor Nicole for her support.

He said: "If it weren't for her I don't know what I'd be doing now, this woman has changed my life, so thank you."

The live results show also included performances from Bruno Mars, who sang his new hit 'Locked Out Of Heaven' and Rihanna who sang her latest single 'Diamonds'.
