Robert Pattinson "doesn't know" if he has an audience outside of the 'Twilight' movies

The actor is still best known for his role as teen vampire Edward Cullen in the hugely successful movie franchise, but he's trying to take on roles which will paint him in a different light, such as his appearance in action drama 'The Rover' and indie flick 'Maps to the Stars'.

Speaking at the Cannes film festival in France, he said: "I had done so many parts where I was super-still - like the whole of 'Twilight'. It's so restrictive.

"You do something [like 'The Rover'] where you have blood all over your face, you can't be expected to fit into any kind of mould.

"Also, I don't really know who my audience is. I don't know if I have an audience. Outside of 'Twilight', I don't know."

The somewhat surly star is also doing his best to stay out of the spotlight off-camera since his split from Kristen Stewart.

He added: "I'm just trying to not be in stupid gossip magazines, basically, and I think the best way to do it is never be photographed ever "As I get older, I just get more and more and more self-conscious about getting photographed. I don't know why. I've done it too many times and now I feel like everyone can see through me."

Despite insisting he does not want to be photographed, Robert is currently starring in a huge advertising campaign for fragrance Dior Homme, which sees his image appear in adverts in magazines around the world. He also graces the cover of the most recent issue of France's Premiere magazine, with an accompanying photoshoot inside.
