Tenacious D's Twitter account has been hacked and won't be returned unless Jack Black contacts the person responsible directly.

The group's social media page was taken over earlier on Sunday the 05.06.16 by a mystery tech expert calling themselves 'Ransom' who falsely claimed the 'School of Rock' star had died.

Now the cyber attacker claimed he won't give back control of the account unless the 46-year-old star gets in touch.

He told the Mirror Online: "Jack doesn't have his Twitter back and I am waiting for him to email me so that I can return it to him."

Hours after the original post announcing Jack's death, Ruthless admitted it was a hoax and posted: "Calm down guys! It's just a prank bro, look there's the camera...

"The Legend is still alive, it is ok guys :) (sic)"

And the hacker admitted he found the reaction to the fake death announcement "quite funny".

He added: "It is obvious how much the fans care, you can see that from the tweets I am receiving.

"But they should all be happy that it was a joke and not true."

Ruthless describes himself as a 'Meme Lord' who is "superior" to other Twitter hackers and claimed to have used specialised computers to generate the account passwords by inputting data such as date of birth, phone numbers and addresses.

He also claims to have accessed other celebrity accounts, including those of late 'Jackass' star Ryan Dunn - who died in 2011 - and Bring Me The Horizon singer Oli Sykes.

He added: "All I have done is accessed [Jack's] Twitter and Email, nothing more, nothing less.

"The way I accessed the accounts is hardly known by people out there but a select few people have access to the components used."

The cyber attacker claims to be a teenager who is operating from Brazil and has his eye on other famous accounts, even if he's at risk of punishment.

He continued: "If I was to get caught, it really wouldn't surprise me.

"But then again, I couldn't really give a flying f**k.

"If I get caught, I get caught. Nothing I can do at the end of the day."
