Campers have had to abandon their pitches near Taupo, to escape from a large scrub fire

Campers have had to abandon their pitches near Taupo, to escape from a large scrub fire

Fire and Emergency sent at least 10 trucks to the Five Mile Bay area, when the flames erupted for a second time last night.

A fire earlier in the day had already been dealt with.

Dozens of campervans parked in the freedom camping spot were forced to evacuate.

Firefighters from Taupo and Tokoroa are among those involved...so far there are no reports of damage to homes.
