    A young wanna-be driver

    A young wanna-be driver

An 11-year-old has stolen a car in Dunedin, crashing it and fleeing from police on foot.

Emergency services were called to reports of a multi-car crash in the suburb of Kenmure, just after 9.30 last night.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen says the boy took his parents' Volkswagon Golf, but had no skills whatsoever.

He says the 11-year-old crashed on the first bend, hitting two parked cars and causing the stolen vehicle to flip on its roof.

Dinnissen says it's amazing there were no injuries.

The boy later turned up at his grandparent's place.
