Two people have died after their light planes crashed into each other, catching fire, in Masterton

It's believed the two planes collided mid-air on approach to the Hood Aerodrome this morning.

An eyewitness has told the Herald there was a bang, and then the planes came spiralling down.

Emergency services will be at the scene near Hughes Line for some time.

Police and the local council are now addressing media at a press conference .
