A man found dead in an Oamaru cake shop asked police for help the day before he died

A man found dead in an Oamaru cake shop asked police for help the day before he died

A Coroner's Inquest into the death of 46-year-old Wayne Ross is under way at the Oamaru District Court.

The Otago Daily Times reports he died in 2015 of self-inflicted injuries at a shop he owned with his wife.

Coroner Sue Johnson called on police who dealt with Ross the previous day - after he was arrested for throwing a cup of coffee on his wife.

They told the court Ross stated he needed help after being arrested - but they decided it was safe to release him on bail after he was seen by a mental health worker.
