An investigation has found a lack of communication was at fault when a train driver let off two passengers on a main line near Christchurch

A TranzAlpine train from Greymouth to Christchurch pulled into the wrong track at Rolleston station, on September 3, last year.
Released passengers walked across the Main Line without protection.
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission says neither the train driver or the controller contacted each other about a recovery plan - and all parties need to understand how to do this safely.
Train crews have since been instructed by KiwiRail on how to disembark passengers when a platform isn't available.
