    A woman who cut off her electronic monitoring bracelet and went on the run for a week while she was supposed to stand trial for the murder of her daughter has appeared in court


    Southern Thompson has appeared in the High Court at Rotorua from Hamilton, where she handed herself into police last night.

    The 27-year-old is accused of killing her 18-month-old daughter, Comfort Jay Thompson-Pene, in Tirau in July 2018.

    Thompson had been on electronically-monitored bail and was to appear in court on Tuesday, but her bracelet was removed and she failed to turn up to court -- forcing the jury to be dismissed.

    She's been remanded in custody to reappear next Friday for a callover.
