Timothy Taylor was sentenced to life in prison in 2000 for the murder of Lisa Blakie .
The 20-year-old was killed as she hitchhiked from Christchurch to Greymouth.
A Parole Board declared today Taylor is no longer a risk to the community.
Herald journalist Anna Leask says Blakie's family believe there isn't enough evidence to suggest Taylor murdered Blakie - but that he was likely involved.
She says Taylor has always said he did not physically kill Blakie.
He has a team of people working behind the scenes to prove his innocence.
