Eddie Quirke was jailed in September for stealing 1.4 million dollars from his parents-in-law's estate.
Today, Justice David Gendall rejected Quirke's appeal against his four and a half year sentence
A report produced to the High Court in Christchurch, says Quirke was in awe of his "career criminal" dad.
But Justice Gendall ruled his father's illicit activities couldn't be blamed for Quirke's offending.
He found Quirke couldn't resist offending - and any link with his father was casual.
