Another building in the capital has been vacated due to earthquake risks

Another building in the capital has been vacated due to earthquake risks

The Eagle Technology House office block has been assessed against new guidelines issued after the partial collapse of Statistics House in the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake.

Engineers have found the 11-storey building has a theoretical New Building Standard rating of below 34 percent, defining it as earthquake-prone.

This is despite strengthening work on it in 2013 and 2017.

School of Tourism Chief Executive Kylie Wilson says they've moved out of the building and students are doing online learning due to the risk.
