A senior police officer has paid tribute to a young constable, killed in a car smash on State Highway Five

30-year-old Shannon Rastrick - from Tokoroa - had been working in the Taupo area since graduating in 2018.

She was killed in the accident at Tapapa yesterday morning, when she was off-duty.

Area Commander Inspector Phil Edwards says she was a loved and valued colleague, who'll be missed dearly.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
