People are being urged to stay away from an ongoing stand-off in Levin involving armed police

People are being urged to stay away from an ongoing stand-off in Levin involving armed police

An area of Bledisloe Street is cordoned off due to what Police say is an ongoing self-harm incident.

A number of residents were told to evacuate overnight, and a negotiation team have been speaking with the person.

Horowhenua Mayor Bernie Wanden says the message to the public is clear.

He says people should go about their day as normal, but they need to stay away from the area and be aware of the situation.

Police say it's safe for students to attend nearby schools but there will be an increased police presence in the area.
