Around 10 firefighters remain at the scene of a fire at a recycling facility in Levin

Crews were called to the fire just before 6=30 this morning.. with 30 firefighters tackling the blaze at its peak.

Residents have been advised to keep windows and doors closed to avoid exposure to potentially toxic smoke.

Fire and Emergency Central Shift Manager Chris Dalton says the fire is now contained.

He says they'll likely have a truck there most of the day, keeping an eye on the fire, hauling rubbish out and dampening down.
