Officers investigating an assault in Masterton on Monday night are appealing for public help

Police say two young men walking in the town were confronted by a driver shortly before 10 o'clock.

The driver chased one of the men into Leeds place and attacked him - leaving the victim with a broken leg

Police are seeking sightings of a black ute driven by the alleged offender - believed to be an older Ford or Nissan with a tarpaulin over the tray.

Officers are also looking for information on an older model red ute with a flat deck.
