Regions with a rural backbone are leading the charge in the Covid economic recovery

A new Westpac Regional Round Up report is highlighting regions dominated by meat and dairy, are expected to continue doing well - despite prices to come off earlier highs.
Regions with strong agriculture performances such as Canterbury have had a good year - while others such as Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay have struggled due to adverse weather conditions.
Westpac Industry Economist Paul Clark says international markets should drive favourable demand for meat and dairy.
He says Canterbury will likely do better than Auckland and Wellington in the coming year, due to its large rural sector.
