It's been another night of heavy rain in the upper North Island

It's been another night of heavy rain in the upper North Island

Red Heavy Rain Warnings have been lifted in Northland, but remain in place for much of northern Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula, and the western Bay of Plenty.

Orange Heavy Rain Warnings remain in effect for the rest of Auckland, Great Barrier Island, eastern Bay of Plenty, and northern Gisborne District.

Heavy rain watches have also been in place for Waikato, Mount Taranaki, northwest Tasman and Westland.

Northland and Auckland remain in a state of emergency -- with hundreds of Northland homes without power -- and a number of roads affected by flooding and slips.

State Highway 1 is closed over the Brynderwyns, State Highway 25A is closed between Kopu and Hikuai, and State Highway 26 is closed between Te Aroha and Paeroa.

State Highway Two through Karangahake Gorge -- between Waihi and Paeroa -- has been affected by a slip.

People are being urged not to drive, walk, play, swim or dive in floodwater.
