    A prison term for a paua poacher who plundered three suitcases-full of shellfish from Kaikoura


    The fishery closed in 2016 after an earthquake destroyed about 20 percent of stocks, and reopened for a limited three-month season late 2021.

    Robert Jason Guild was sentenced to seven months imprisonment in the Blenheim District Court under the Fisheries Act ... for gathering 249 ordinary paua.

    A trainee Honorary Fishery Officer covertly witnessed the 40 year old's offending.
